DenverLibPlus

What does DenverLibPlus do? Well, it helps facilitate logging in to the library, and handling common tasks when putting a book on hold. After installing the addon just like any other Firefox addon, open up the preferences by going to Tools->Addons, and selecting “Preferences” under DenverLibPlus.

You should get a screen that looks like this:

DenverLibPlus preferences

You’ll want to enter your library card information – your last name, and your card number. Choose your preferred branch (this is where items you put on hold will get sent to) and select which features you want to be enabled.

They are:

“avoid timeout” – this keeps the site from timing out of any given page you are looking at.
“auto-fill user on login page” – This will fill out the name and card number on the login page, and submit that information.
“automatically select default branch” – This will choose your library from the list of branches when putting an item on hold, and submit that information.
“automatically go back to catalog after a hold has been placed” – This will go back to where you were when you selected an item to put on hold.

Typically, it’s best to leave all of these checked, and only disable if you are having problems with any particular feature (for instance, if you entered your card information incorrectly).

What does this cost? Well, nothing. It’s a completely free addon. I’m between jobs right now, though, so if you find that you’d like to donate some money, email me. Even better yet, if you know of some development work in the Denver area, I’d sure like to hear about it. 🙂

Mar 13 2010 update: I’ve submitted an update to this back in late February. It still seems to be awaiting the approval process. If you want a copy prior to that, just email me and I can send you the updated add-on.

Mar 24, 2010 update: I’ve put version 0.7 back in the sandbox, since it seems to be causing some people some grief. That way no one installs it. People with older versions of FF (doubt there are many left) will still be able to install 0.6. Sorry for any inconvenience. Either email me for the new version (0.8) or wait until Mozilla approves it.

    Hi Sean,

Could you please send me the latest update for DenverLibPlus? I just upgraded to Firefox 3.6, 64-bit Windows 7 and the plug-in installs fine but when I click on the options button the options window never opens and then the add-ons window is locked. I end up having to kill the add-ons window in task manager.

Thanks for writing such a helfpul plugin.

    Regards,

    Craig Jackson

    Hi Sean,

I love your addon, and have been using it for ages. I don’t know if you are aware of this, but it seems that the Denver Library completed a major overhaul of their website. It is completely different and uses a Flash window and aquabrowser.com (from my NoScript list) to review “My Account” instead of My Card.

Will you be rewriting your wonderful addon to work with this new interface? Please do.

    Very sincerely,

    Ed
